As I read today's post from Davinie, I realized how many times we forget to embrace imperfection. Here are some great tips for scrapbooking some "not particularly stellar photos" with Davinie Fiero.
"I was recently looking through my digital photo files from the last month and came across some pictures I had taken at my daughter’s recent pumpkin carving night at her Elementary school. And by some I should say at least probably 50 photos. They were taken in the cafeteria, at night, with kids running around. I had to laugh as I looked through them, because none of them are particularly stellar photos, but the reason I took them was because we were having so much fun as a family and I had a story to tell.
A couple of stumbling blocks included lighting and blurriness to some of my favorite shots. I didn’t let that keep me from making a scrapbook layout about our adventures that night though. I decided to create a two page layout, choose my photos, and print them on a smaller scale, so the poor lighting wouldn’t be glaring on the layout, and so that the blur on my favorite photo of the night from my Payton wouldn’t stand out too much.
With the fall theme in mind, I also chose to work with some Crate Paper Restoration. There are a lot of fun prints in this line that would work great for fall photos.
Inspired by the design I had in mind, and the orange print, I started my layout by stitching a random grid in yellow. I didn’t want the spacing to be perfect, because I like the look of imperfection (shouldn’t we all embrace imperfection?).
I had all my photos except the one of my girls together printed at 2.75x 2.75 but about 3 inches square with the white trim. I then arranged the story on the page, added some chipboard elements and the alphas, as well as two different patterned paper prints to fill the gaps and add some interest, followed up with my journaling, and voila, two page layout. Story told. Moments captured.
Our photos are not always perfect, but then again, neither is your life. Be sure to take the time to document it all, the good and the bad, the focused and unfocused, tungsten light and in the sun too.
Have a great day! ~ Davinie

I love your two page layout! So simple, yet so perfect. I love love love the stitching! And you make some excellent points in your article, too. I try not to get so focused on having the "perfect" photo or even the "perfect" embellishment, but sometimes I fail at that. It's so easy to get caught up in wanting the pristine and perfect layout like you see in magazines and online. Thanks for the reminder that it's about capturing the memories, no matter how unperfect our pictures of it are! (And with my lack of photography skills I have more of those types of photos than good ones! LOL!)

Great point! We are so hard on ourselves - not only do we have to be perfect scrapbookers, but then we need to be perfect photographers. We need to cut outselves some slack - sometimes the imperfection is what makes like sweet...
