With warmer weather rapidly approaching in my neck of the woods, I thought it would be a good time for a technique that you could use when creating summer cards and layouts.
A friend of mine recently asked me to design some water park birthday invitations for her son. I rooted around in my border punch basket (LARGE border punch basket) for my Fiskars Boundary Waters punch and sifted through my embossing storage tower for my Cuttlebug Distressed Stripes folder. These two tools, paired with Core’dinations ColorCore Cardstock, make for some very cool waves and sandy beaches.
Supplies: Core’dinations cardstock (Vintage and Essentials) and Sand-It Gadget tool, Fiskars border punch, Cuttlebug embossing folder, Stampin’ Up! circle and scalloped circle punches, Quickutz dies (shovel, pail), American Crafts layering tape, Uniball black pen, Font: Another Typewriter (downloaded off the internet), other: white card base.
In order to make the waves, I cut four pieces of Core’dinations cardstock from their Brilliant Blues colour family (Essentials) in increasing size. After I punched each edge with the Boundary Waters punch, I lightly sanded the crests of the waves to add additional dimension.
When making a believable sandy shore line, all you need is a sheet of light brown Vintage cardstock from either the Reminisce or Flower Power collection pack. I cut a 2” strip of cardstock and then embossed it with my Distressed Stripes folder. After a light sanding, I then tore a small strip from the top to really show off the lighter coloured core.
So, have I got you all fired up to make some “beachy” projects? Do you want to have a play with some Core’dinations cardstock on me? Swing on by my blog (Only in Hollywoodstock) and leave a comment on my Tuesday, May 31, 2011, posting on or before Friday, June 3, 2011, by 9pm EST for a chance to win a Sand-It Gadget tool and some Core’dinations ColorCore Cardstock. Good luck! (oh and you may just want to check back here on Friday too ;)
