Good morning everyone! Did you have a great National Scrapbook Day on Saturday? How many husbands and friends laughed when you told them it was NSD? Well, we had a really fun day and were so glad you could join us. If you couldn't, be sure to check out THIS post. We also want to thank you for all your excitement on the announcement of our new Crop & Create events!! And for all those readers that asked if we will be coming to BC, rest assured we are trying to work on a date for that. Your are absolutely not forgotten!
This week we have the fabulous Davinie Fiero joining us with yet another great project!
"On National Scrapbook Day I shared a card inspired by a layout I created for the 2011 SCT calendar. Hosting the blog this week, I wanted to do the opposite. Today I have a card to share, and on Wednesday, I’ll have a layout to share, inspired by the design and products used.
Tips for cardmaking:
Standard card sizes are 4.25 x 5.5”. This is the size I generally use now. However, when I first started making cards, I had a tough time creating on this little space. At the time, I also only created layouts that were 12x12. The easiest way for me to branch out into a different form of papercrafting was to make 6x6 cards and think of them as tiny layouts with no photos or journaling. Just fun.
Now that I create both 8.5x11 and 12x12 layouts and many different card sizes, my design ideal remains. Just have fun. Keep in mind that the recipient appreciates the thought process of creating something by hand rather than purchasing something at the store, and won’t be looking at button placement or design.
Here’s the card I came up with today:
I used a few of my favorite things and just had fun with this card. I adore buttons and fabric and kraft cardstock and stitching and my scallop punch and Sassafras sticker alphas…. I really like this color palette too. My layout this week will be using the same products. If you would like to play along, here are the supplies:
Bazzill kraft cardstock
American Crafts / Hello Sunshine / Frolic pattern
Crate Paper / Portrait Collection / Bridesmaids
Crate Paper / Toy Box Collection / Play Date
Studio Calico label sticker
Sassafras turquoise glitter alphas
Karen Foster floss
Fiskars scallop punch
EK success scallop punch
Fabric
Machine stitching
Instructions:
1. Trim cardstock base for a 4.25 x 5.5” card.
2. Trim Bridesmaids print at 4x4”.
3. Trim another piece of the Bridesmaid print at 4x2” high and use a border punch on the bottom edge.
4. Trim the Frolic print at 4x2”.
5. Trim another piece of the Frolic print at 4x2” and use another border punch on the top edge.
6. Trim a small piece of the Play Date print at 4” wide and use a border punch on the bottom edge.
7. Layer pieces on cardstock base. Layer label sticker. Adhere and stitch
8. Trim a piece of fabric at approximately 1” wide and 7-8” long. Using your sewing machine, adjust the setting for the longest stitches, and sew down the middle of the fabric. Leave the ends long. Using the bottom thread, pull to adjust fabric to fit on the card. Stitch edges.
9. Attach buttons and sentiment sticker.
I’ll see you back here on Wednesday for that layout! Enjoy the process and happy crafting!
