Happy May everyone! Remember all the hype and chatter about ‘the dress’ a few weeks ago? - Kate Middleton’s wedding gown was absolutely stunning and has inspired me to play a little dress-up. Today I’ll be using the Sizzix Tim Holtz dress form die and a little bit of sparkly glitter.
Here are the supplies to gather up. Tim Holtz sewing room die, Be Creative double-sided tape, Glitter Ritz microfine glitter, a paper piercer tool, and 2.5 x 7 inch plain white cardstock.
Unroll the double-sided tape and adhere the plain cardstock to the tape. The wax backing remains on the other side, do not peel this away yet.
Place the paper/tape piece with wax backing side down on the die . Roll through your die cut machine.
You have just cut out the dress form. This is where the creative fun begins! Take your paper piercer and score your dress design. Use just enough pressure to cut through the wax backing and not the tape/paper.
For my example I created a wide band around the shoulder line which I will glitter first in a different colour than the rest of the dress. Gently peel away the wax exposing the sticky tape. Pour glitter covering the exposed tape.
Burnish by rubbing the glitter into the tape with your finger so that all the glitter is adhered to the sticky tape. Next, peel away the wax backing to expose the sticky tape for the rest of the dress.
The exposed tape exposed is like a blank canvas, ready for all the little embellies like flowers, sequins, beads from your stash. Apply the embellishments first, and then your glitter last.
I re-purposed the chain from Maya Road chipboard elements (I save everything!). I cut a few metal beads and used it as a necklace. Again, glitter is applied last.
You’ve just created your own dress design, wasn’t that super easy and fun!
There are so many themes to incorporate the dress element. Weddings, wedding showers, prom night, girls night out, shopping road trips, etc. are just a few that come to mind. Here are some other dresses I created using fabric and lace. I use the double-sided tape with fabric on one side and cardstock on the other. After cutting out the shape, I just hand cut the fabric dress design and then adhere it to the dress form base.
The 2 dresses shown below are created using a really fun shimmer and glitter technique that I will share with you next month!
Card Supplies: Bo Bunny Pattern paper, Sizzix die cut, Be Creative Tape , Glitter Ritz Microfine glitter, Kaiserkraft beads
Have a wonderful day everyone!
