Hello everyone! It’s Sheri Reguly here today to share a closer look at my travel themed album that was featured in the brand new summer issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today (you can view or download the entire issue HERE!).
Doodlebug Design’s 12x12 Storybook Album was the perfect choice for the type of album that I wanted to create, as well as for the hundreds of vacation photos that I wanted to include. The album comes in 7 wonderful color choices, and includes a dozen page protectors in a variety of different templates. This style of album is perfect for practically any theme or occasion!
I really loved the addition of the photo window on the front cover of this album. I had several different ideas on how to fill this space, from the name of our destination to my favorite vacation photo, but I opted for a fun bit of embellishing instead. A dimensional pinwheel, backed with a paper doily was the winning choice. To further embellish my cover, I framed the pinwheel using a scalloped border sticker, and added a row of colorful chipboard flags topped with tiny buttons.
The pages that I created were designed using the 4x6 template page protectors that are frequently used for the very popular “Project Life” albums that everyone is creating these days. I absolutely loved working with this smaller size! Not only did my pages come together relatively quickly, but I also had the option of using standard 4x6 prints to fill many of the pockets. (This is a great way to include all those extra photos that otherwise don’t get scrapbooked!)
My album approach was a little bit different from the typical “Project Life” approach in the sense that all of my pages were based upon a single topic, being our family vacation to sunny Florida. Rather than use a casual mix of random product, I wanted to create a cohesive feel throughout by album, where one page flowed into the next.
Fancy Pants Design’s “Summer Soul Collection” was the perfect product choice for my album. It provided me with many coordinating papers and embellishments that fit perfectly with the fun loving beach feel of my photos. Using a predesigned collection would have to be my number one time saving tip for when creating such an album. All of the guesswork of mixing and coordinating colors and patterns is already taken care of for you. All you have to do is have fun and be creative...what could be better than that!
To add a bit of my own personal touch though, I also introduced some Petite Prints by Doodlebug Designs, as well as a handful of my very favorite miscellaneous embellishments.
As I mentioned earlier, I loved having the option of filling some of the pockets with standard size 4x6 prints. I did this several times throughout my album, being sure to take advantage of any white space within those photos. These areas are perfect for embellishing or adding a touch of extra journaling! If you look closely, you’ll also notice the occasional digital stamp that I layered on top of my photos prior to printing.
One last fun advantage to creating this type of album, is that any full size layouts that I wish to create can easily be incorporated, keeping all of our vacation memories safely stored in a single place.
I had so much fun working with the smaller scale of these pages, that I invite you to join in on the fun! There are countless ideas that can be designed using a 4x6 format, and the best part is, because you’re working on such a small canvas, you can achieve instant gratification in 30 minutes or less. You can create a photo greeting card to brighten someone’s day, design a photo postcard, or even frame a 4x6 design into a home decor accent. I’d love to hear any other ideas that you may have, or better yet, I’d love to see them!
Join me again on Wednesday when I might just happen to have another quick & easy 4x6 idea to share with you. ~ Sheri Reguly

Absolutely GORGEOUS album. I have a question though...The page protectors aren't the ones that came in the album correct? They are the divided pages from Project Life?
I would love to do my holiday/vacation albums like this. I think it would go so much faster!! Thank you so much for the incredible inspiration!

Wow! All I can say is thank you! I am a scrapper who feels I have to use all of my pictures. If I print them, they will be in the album. Being able to look at and show my pictures is what drew me to scrapbooking. Expensive pictures were stuck everywhere and I could not put my hands on them if I wanted too. What you suggest will make my life easier and help me make significant progress. For a start, I have several weddings to do, including mine over 30 years ago, trying to do the typical layouts would take forever. But this will work very nicely. Thank you again!

And! I had been avoiding the albums with the window in front, and this was truly limiting my choices. But I just did not want albums with small photos or title in front. I love the embellishment idea! You have no idea what an impact this one post has made on my scrapping life. I can not wait to tell my closest scrapping friends. Thanks again.
