Colour Suite April with Summer Fullerton and Emily Pitts!

Welcome to the April Colour Suite. I was in the mood for some bright and bold colours when I put together this month’s Colour Suite.  Kelly green and neon yellow is where this month’s colour suite began. I then balanced out these brights with a wonderful navy, neutral grey and a pop of unexpected pink. The end result is simply makes me smile.

If you have followed the Colour Suite for any length of time I often call it a road map to creativity because you never know where it might take you. When I started my journey this month I envisioned pink and navy with lots of feminine touches.

Supplies Used: Bazzill Cardstock, Patterned Papers Bella Blvd/American Crafts/My Minds Eye/Heidi Swapp, Webster’s Pages Washi tape, My Minds Eye Enamel Dots/Brads, Stamps Technique Tuesday, Ink VersaFine Black, Wood Embellishment Studio Calico, Star Brads Making Memories, Queen & Co yellow embellishments, Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher, My Minds Eye Label Sticker, Stick Pins, Dymo Label Maker, Silhouette Cutting System and various fonts downloaded from the internet

The layout I created took a whole different route. Rather than embracing the feminine side of this suite I was totally inspired by the bright Kelly green and decided to scrapbook some older baseball photos. I don’t think it hurt that I happened to have a couple brand new pieces of patterned paper the perfect shade of green. I only used little bits of pink and navy on my layout but the look and feel of this month’s Color Suite is still there.

This month I also invited friend and fellow Scrapbook & Cards Today designer Emily Pitts to play along with us. Emily confessed to me that she found color challenges challenging, but it invigorating to try something outside her comfort zone. Emily told me, “This palette was so fresh and springy, plus I got to make a doily from a vintage book page because the yellow was just the right yellow! I love it when things like that happen!”

I love how Emily approached our colours this month as her colour choices were almost opposite of mine.  This goes to show you how using different amounts of each Colour doesn’t change the Suite but makes it unique.

ScrapFest Friday...and a give away!

Check out Colour Suite March...and one more! It's good!

Welcome to the March Colour Suite. Every so often I take a step back and examine my past colour suites, looking for trends and favorites. This month I noticed it’s been awhile since I have used green so this is my starting point for the March Colour Suite. In honor of spring I chose a bright sunny green and then paired it with orange and red. I then rounded out my colour picks with a light blue, which I find to be almost neutral and a gray.
 
This month I asked my friend Vicki Boutin to take the Colour Suite challenge with me. It’s such a treat for me to see how someone else translates my vision. Vicki told me the March colours made her happy and ready for hot weather. I adore how she immediately picked up on the vibe I was going for this month and took it where I couldn’t.

 
My initial thoughts about this Colour Suite were "it’s so very fresh and bright."  But somehow when I pulled all my pieces together I gravitated to the cobblestone coloured cardstock which as of late has become one of my favorite go to colours. And thus my layout was born. Lots of neutrals with just a few bits and pieces of the freshness that I was so craving when I started this project. I think the current state of my relationship with my son may have influenced my colour choices. He very much the brutish grumpy teenager like these days. This just goes to show you how much colour effects the mood of your layout.

Each month I strive to spark your creativity with colour, be it grumpy or sunny your message and feelings are not always conveyed with words but colour as well. I hope I inspired your next colour adventure and don’t forget to let colour speak for you on your next layout!

Colour Suite February with Summer and a guest!

Welcome to the February Colour suite. When I select my colours each month I often try to stay away from the idea of holiday themed colour palettes except when it comes to Valentine’s Day! The romantic in me just can’t resist the the allure of pink. This month’s colour suite is most definitely intended to be Valentine themed. I started pulling this month’s colour sutie by selecting 2 shades of pink, a dark almost fuchsia like pink and a medium pink. I couldn’t just be simple with my colour selections I had to then add purple and yellow for a little something unexpected. This colour suite wouldn’t be complete without a neutral so I went crisp and basic and chose white.

It’s funny how the Colour Suite works it’s mysterious magic while I gravitated to the pink when I created this month’s suite I used very little of it in my actual projects. Instead I found myself reaching for white. While this was in no way my original intent I love the direction I went. I used the white as a vehicle for the colours this allowed the little bits of colour to really pop off my cards.

 
This month I also invited my friend and fellow designer Laura Vegas to create a layout based off my colour suite. Colour is so very subjective what one person loves another person doesn’t and I thought you might enjoy seeing how other designers use colour. Laura jumped right in and embraced all the colours I chose even the purple which she confessed used to be her least favorite colour to scrapbook. I love how she layered all the colours I chose in her background. The white background and the black and white photo balance out the layers of colour perfectly.

I always write that the Colour Suite is a road map to creativity I really felt that this month when found myself following the road less traveled. I hope you have enjoyed this month’s Colour Suite and we hope you will play along!!!   To see all the the other Colour Suite challenges, click here!
