Repurpose challenge with Vicki Boutin...and a cyber Monday deal of course!

With the start of December just days away it's all about Christmas in our house.  In preparation for the holidays I have started cleaning.  That includes my work space.  As I was tidying up my desk and getting ready to throw out bits and pieces from projects past I noticed that a lot of the scraps went together.  So instead of throwing them away I got inspired and gathered them up to be repurposed!!
 


Over the past few years I have been too tired after months of travel to get into the "handmade" swing of things.  This year is different!  I have plans for baking, decorating, festive gift wrapping and more. That includes making gift tags.  I think this is an easy undertaking and I am going to kick it off by repurposing my left over scraps and bits into gift tags!!!  Fun, huh?!  Well I am excited and feels good to want to make stuff.  I hope you will join me!

Monday inspiration with Paula Gilarde!!!

Helllllllo Monday!  We are thrilled to have our great friend and fabulous designer Paula Gilarde joining us to share her "Monday Inspiration".  A little kick start to week!  Are you ready for a challenge this week?  Let's get going...

"Happy Monday everybody! Paula here with some scrappy inspiration for you today. When I am stuck for ideas for a layout I pull out a magazine, any kind of a magazine, and look at the ads. Here is an advertisement I got from a magazine this month.

I like the way the title and the jouranling are stacked in a column on top of the photos. There's lots of great inspiration here. It inspired me to create this layout:

I stacked my title, journaling and photos and layered the bottom of the layout with embellishments (leaves in this case!)

I was also inspired to create a card based on the ad - this time I stacked the sentiment:

Next time you are looking through a magazine take a closer look at the ads - they might inspire you more than you realize!

Fall Treat Toppers with Aly Dosdall...and one more!

I love fall—the cool crisp air, the gorgeous changing leaves, the pumpkin patch, football, hot apple cider.  During this wonderful season my kids’ classes at school often hold a fall celebration.   Here’s a quick and easy idea for personalized treat toppers you can give to each child in the class, or to your own kids or grandkids to celebrate fall.  You could even make some and give them out to trick-or-treaters at Halloween.

Supplies: cardstock (Stampin’ Up); patterned paper (Stampin’ Up, We R Memory Keepers); ribbon (Stampin’ Up); rickety fence border maker, circle maker (Creative Memories); rubber stamps and ink pad (Stampin’ Up); electronic die cutting machine (Cricut by Provo Craft); foam squares (Creative Memories)

Here’s what you need:
• Cardstock
• Patterned paper
• Ribbon
• Ziploc treat bags
• Fall candy or other goodies
• Alpha stamps or stickers
• Punches or die cutting machine
• Stapler

Here’s how to make the treat toppers:
• Fill your snack bags with candy or other goodies.  Measure the length.  Mine are 6 ¾ inches long.
• Trim patterned paper to 4 x 6 ¾ inches (or 4 inches by the length of your bags).  Score at 2 inches and fold.

• Place the paper over the top of the bag and staple twice—once at each end close to the bottom of the topper.

• Add some double-sided scrapbook tape across the bottom of the topper and place a 6 ¾ inch length of ribbon over the tape.  This will anchor your design and cover the staples.

• Add a punched or die cut border above the ribbon, a die cut or punched pumpkin, and a monogram with the first initial of each child to the bag.  Finish off with a bow (for girls) or square knot (for boys).

Design tip: consider including navy blue with your traditional fall color palette.  It’s a hot color this season!

We are back from Crop & Create Moncton and, like Crop & Create Winnipeg, Markham and Saskatoon, we had an incredible time and met some pretty amazing women!  From the moment we arrived in Moncton until the moment we got back on the plane, it was a fabulous experience for the Crop & Create team.  The ladies and onsite stores that attended, and those that just came to shop, were thrilled to be there and are a pretty excitable bunch  :)   To say we will head back there in a heartbeat is an understatment! Thank you Moncton for 2 beautiful days!!!

Glossy Accent Resist technique with Shari Carroll!

Good morning SCT readers!  I’m back today to share a fun Glossy Accents technique.  This is really great when you want to slightly alter an image by leaving a portion white.  The Glossy Accents work as a resist and seal the color beneath protecting it from other inking treatments. 

Instructions to create the butterfly:

Step 1:  Stamp and die cut the butterfly.  Use a brown marker to color body.  Add Glossy Accents to areas that will remain white and over the body. Allow to dry.

Step 2:
Ink the butterfly using a small applicator and Broken China Distress Ink.

Step 3:
Ink the antennae area and around body with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

Step 4:
Stamp the butterfly with a Hero Arts definition image using Walnut Stain Distress ink.
