May Colour Suite Challenge with Summer Fullerton!

 

 

Welcome to the May Colour Suite. This month I tried something a little new. My recent Colour Suites have all felt super bold and bright so I challenged myself to come up with something that felt light and airy. I immediately knew I wanted to include lots of neutrals this month. White and tan were natural choices. I paired them with a super trendy mint green, a pop of orange and pink that is almost mauve like.

Supplies Used: Bazzill Cardstock, Patterned Paper from Webster’s Pages/American Crafts/My Minds Eye/Heidi Swapp, Heidi Swapp chipboard/diecut heart embellishments, Studio Calico Wood Veneer Embellishment, Technique Tuesday Stamp, Close to my heart Ink, Jillibean Soup Corrugated People, Mist Studio Calico, Jillibean Soup Resin Stick Pink (pin removed), My Minds Eye Enamel Dots, Silhouette Cutting System/Images, Ek Success heart Punch, We R Memory Keepers Corner Rounder and font Veteran Typewriter

Since my goal for this layout was light and airy I knew I was going to embrace the white and use the colours as secondary elements on my layout. My layout uses almost no orange in fact it almost feels like an after thought however since my goal was light and neutral my intent was to keep the colour usage to a minimum. I even went as far as to turn my photos black and white to further emphasize the light feeling I was trying to convey. Imagine taking a different approach to these colours, embrace the colour your end result will be completely unique and different.

Happy 7th Birthday celebration! Day Five!!!

First, we want to thank you for all your wonderful comments and best wishes for another 7 years!  If you don't think we read those, let me assure you we do.  And we love them.  To know that we have inspired readers around the world is a great feeling and we have so much planned over the next year!  I would love to share a card we received at the office this week from Joan Demers who has been a long time SCT reader...

Thank you Joan!  What a sweet surprise and it reminds us how lovely it is to open a surprise card! 

Today we have a great card from new design team member Christa Paustenbaugh that Christa designed for her daughter's 7th birthday!  How perfect!

"When I know I'm going to use the "negative" of a Silhouette cut I make sure to center the image on the Silhouette screen to provide plenty of space around the image for my card, especially if I'm going to embellish the negative space as well.  I use a contrasting color to back the image and a lot of time will use foam adhesive for additional dimension.  Happyrista Birthday SCT" ~  Christa

Sketch challenge Tuesday!

It's Tuesday and a perfect time for a PageMaps sketch challenge SCT friends!  We hosted Project 12 a few years ago and Becky Fleck created some amazing sketches for it including this one below.  A perfect double page sketch to get your creative juices flowing today!

Pinterest + Laura Vegas = Fabulous!

Hey everyone! I'm excited to be back with another Pinterest challenge for you. This time, when I set out to find a fun image to be inspired and challenged by, I focused on one of the fun trends popping up in the scrapbooking industry right now...feathers! 

Feathers have been a trend in the fashion industry for a while now, and it's exciting to see them making their way into scrapbooking products. We are seeing feather patterned papers, feather die cuts, wood veneer feathers, feather rubons, and even real feathers. I came across this image on Pinterest of a gorgeous wrapped gift, complete with a feather tucked under the ribbons. I knew it would be perfect for this challenge.

I choose two types of feathers to use on this challenge. The new colorful and fun real feathers from Bella Blvd and feather die cuts from Kerri Bradford Studio  to use with my Silhouette Cameo.

 

I started out my layout by using my Cameo to cut a circle die cut background piece from some woodgrain patterned paper, inspired by the polka dot wrapping paper in my Pinterest image. I also wanted to use some ribbons and trim on my layout, to mimic the ribbon tied around the gift wrapped package. To "wrap" the crepe paper ribbon onto my layout, I cut a small slit on both sides of my page, directly below my photos. Then I pulled my ribbon through the slits from the backside of the page, and wrapped them around the front, tying them off in a bow on the right side of the layout. I added the green trim below to tie in the green from the photos, and because it added some really great texture to the page.

 

I chose two real feathers to tuck under the ribbons ... a black feather and a burgundy feather, which matched Sarah's tutu in the photo and the velvet chair she was sitting in. These new feathers from Bella Blvd are really fun to use and add so much texture and interest to your projects. They are on the larger size, and I wanted to layer a few smaller feathers on top of them. So I used the feather die cuts from Kerri Bradford Studio, which I cut from a few different patterned papers.
