Happy Monday SCT friends! First can I tell you how incredible it's been celebrating our 10th birthday with our team, our readers, our Crop & Create attendees and our sponsors this past month? The generosity (and excitement!) of our sponsors was over the top, the birthday projects from our team absolutely inspiring and the kindness of our readers and attendees has been the best ever! It's been an exciting celebration and I'll admit to being a little misty eyed each day reading your beautiful comments. For a magazine that started out as an idea around the kitchen table 10 years ago one to now being read in 120 countries today, it's been an unbelievable 10 years. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the joy you bring to us.

10th Birthday Celebration - Day TEN! Grand prize!

 

Good morning! It's Megan, your Editor-in Chief here! When it comes to setting a happy birthday scene, there are three things that come to mind—color, banners, and gift wrap. So I decided to combine these elements into one vibrant (and easy to make—yay!) party decoration. Here’s how:

1. Select five sheets of colorful patterned paper. I used a 6x6 paper pad, which made it as easy as simply tearing the sheets I wanted out.

2. I wanted a monochromatic, rainbow design, so I next reached for my washi in the same color scheme and set to wrapping up my “presents.”

3. Next, the gift tag. Using the same washi tape, dress up basic shipping tags. Add bow stickers to the tops of tags.

I didn’t have orange or green bows, so I made my own from washi tape and enamel dots.

5. Create the greeting using wood veneer letters. To continue the monochromatic look, add a quick coat of acrylic paint.

I didn’t have any Ys left in my stash, so I cut those fairly useless Xs. The paint hides the mark enough to make it work.

6. Add the tags to the centers of the presents and attach the presents to some string to complete your design.

Unless you want to also add “birthday” to your greeting. Since this word is longer, I went with bitty presents, created using square shipping tags, more washi tape, and more wood veneer letters (all painted white this time).

TIP: When adding your washi, leave extra tape that you can then wrap around the string to attach to the banner.

Don’t let my four-legged friend’s yawn fool you, this is one project your birthday boy or girl will surly get a kick out of.

10th Birthday Celebration - Day NINE!

"Let's celebrate! Nancy Damiano here! Creating simple cards with a little pop of something special is a fun, creative outlet for me. I love to add texture and layers of color with patterned paper and stickers. Here, layers of paper from American Craft's Happy Place are stacked to create this fun birthday card. The balloon sticker pops up just over the card for a fun "floating" effect and is kept in place with a gold bow clip.

 My favorite part is the little touch of fringe crepe paper at the bottom of the card. It's a simple, but unexpected touch that creates movement and a bit of fun.

10th Birthday Celebration - Day EIGHT!

"Happy Birthday SCT!!!!  What an awesome milestone…10 years!!!  I am so happy to be contributing a little something to help celebrate!!!  I have a thing for tissue paper flowers!  I make them for birthday parties, Grad parties and mini ones to decorate gifts!  Tissue is inexpensive and comes in a rainbow of colors so it makes for the perfect material!  

Here are a few super simple steps to help you create these pom moms of fun!!!

Gather some pretty tissue paper.

Make sure to layer 7+ sheets of tissue.

Fold the papers in 1”-1 1/2” folds “accordion” style.

Secure the folded tissue in the centre with twine, floral wire or a pipe cleaner and round the ends with scissors.

Separate and gently pull the tissue towards the centre.  Fluff as you go.  I like to work on one side at a time.

Tada!!! You have a lovely pom pom tissue flower!!!

10th Birthday Celebration - Day SEVEN!

 
"I’m thrilled to be blogging today for Scrapbook & Cards Today as we kick off our 10th year celebration both in print and online. Ten years in the publishing business, especially in our crafty business, is a long time, people, and I am honored to have part of the past year.

I know a little something about milestones having just celebrated my 50th birthday. I’m of the firm believe that birthdays are something to be celebrated out loud and for as often as we can get away with it. Still, there is something about the odometer of life ticking off these decade marking occasions that feels like a really big deal.

I love the idea of making a list of things to match your age. I recently made this page to celebrate turning 50 and aptly titled it “50 things I’m grateful for at 50”.

How fun would it be to have a layout like this from every age? As parents, we could make a page for our 10-year-olds, giving them topics and having them fill in the blanks. We could do it for our 20-year-olds, too. Why not?

I plan do do a page like this for every remaining decade that I get to be here and in that spirit, I have a sheet of printable mini banners like the one I used on my page for you to download today. You could apply them to any subject that included these milestone numbers.
