Happy Victoria Day to all of our Canadian friends! We hope you are all having a wonderful day! If the temperature could warm up just a little bit, we would all be happy people!
This week, we have a very special guest designer here on the SCT blog. Emily Pitts from Thornton, CO is here to share some of the innovative and unique projects that she has been working on lately. If you are like us and just love Emily’s fun and fresh style, you can check out more of her work on her blog at http://emilypitts.blogspot.com. As it is Monday, here she is with her challenge:
When I was in grade school, I won a contest by gluing hundreds of smiles I had cut from magazines together to create a collage. After that, I was hooked on the idea of collages. I’d decorate my school binders with tidbits cut out of magazines, sayings and pictures that struck me as profound. But as an adult, I somehow forgot how much fun it was to clip, snip, and glue paper and various other sundry items together—until recently. Inspired by the multi-media artist Leigh Standley, otherwise known as Curly Girl, I’ve begun to embrace my inner collage artist who’d been forgotten in all my straight lace adultness, and I’m having FUN!
This week, I challenge you to take whatever is on your desk and start cutting and pasting. Your lines don’t have to be straight; your papers don’t have to match. Pull out the glitter, the paint, the ink. Grab whatever is within arms reach and use it on your page. I even raided the garbage can for my project; can you guess what I used? The only stipulation I had for myself was to have fun, get a little messy, and keep the focus on the picture. I challenge you to do the same! An added benefit, you can use up a lot of your little odds and ends that might be cluttering your desk.
