Designer Challenge Monday and a Countdown!

This week, we are going to do a daily countdown until we arrive at Thursday! Do you know what Thursday is? Besides June 25th and the last day of school for Kerry and Catherine’s kids? It is the day that the summer issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today launches—in stores and online!!! You don’t want to miss this one! So, the countdown is on—3 days left!

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…this week, Kimber McGray joins us as the blog designer of the week. Here she is with Monday’s challenge:

Hi everyone! My challenge to all of you is to break out those stamps and use them on a layout.

On this fun layout, I stamped on the photo, stamped directly on my page, stamped and then paper pieced the cute little fireflies, and also created a stamped title.

Hi everyone! Today we have a few special treats for you! We are featuring not one, but three projects from designer, instructor, and friend, Sarah Hodgkinson! Sarah is here to help us celebrate two separate occasions—the first is the end of school (for us in Ontario that is at the end of next week) with a special end-of–the-year teacher gift. The second is Father’s Day which is this Sunday, June 21st. Sarah is sharing a beautiful double page layout (that she created using our own Allison Cope’s June sketch—see our spring issue) as well as a card—both projects have a Father’s Day theme. So, without further ado, here is Sarah with her projects:

This is a project that I made for my son’s grade one teacher at the end of last school year. He helped me complete the project by writing on each page something that he liked about his teacher. This gift includes:

•    Gift bag (made from one sheet of 12 x 12 cardstock)
•    Mini-album
•    Card with envelope

We are so pleased to welcome Layle Koncar to our blog as our guest designer of the week! We have been BIG fans of Layle’s work, her teaching style, and not to mention her great sense of fashion for a very long time. Add to that—she is just one classy gal. Thanks for joining us Layle! Here is a little about her:

Hi guys!  Layle Koncar here.  I've been scrapbooking in one form or another for the past 11+ years (when my first son was born) and I jumped at the chance 3 years ago to take on scrapbooking as a real job!  I recently accepted a new job with BasicGrey and I'm super excited to be working for such a great company with such yummy products!  My scrap subjects are my 2 boys; since I don't have daughters to scrap, I like to get my pink, girly fix in by scrapping photos from my childhood.  I've been teaching for the last 5 years and truly enjoy the travel and the connections with other scrapbookers that come with it.  My work has been published in Creating Keepsakes, Better Homes and Gardens Scrapbooks Etc., Memory Makers, Paper Crafts, Legacy, Scrapbook Trends, Paper Trends, Scrapbook & Cards Today, and Pinecone Press.  I authored and contributed to the book Memory Art and am a regular contributor to Paper Crafts books and special issues.  In addition to scrapbooking, I LOVE interior decorating, skiing, reading, traveling, shopping, going to flea markets and spending time with my hubby Nick and my 2 rambunctious boys Jack and Sam.  You can see more of my work on my blog at http://laylekoncar.typepad.com/

To be honest with you, I had no idea what I was going to do for the SCT blog challenge until Saturday afternoon when I found myself at Starbucks.  I noticed this cute gift card next to the register and I grabbed it. 

I thought the design of the card would translate really well to a layout with paper piecing.  I'm not much of a paper piercer, so I thought this would be a great challenge for me, and hey, why not you too?!  But hold on, today's challenge is a 2 for 1!  If paper piecing just isn't your thing, here's another challenge—use the design from a gift card to inspire the design on your card or layout.  Don't have a gift card handy?  Try Googling 'gift card photo' for some ideas.  Many grocery stores have kiosks with tons of different gift cards for sale—check them out while you're picking up that gallon of milk.  And hey, if you still can't find a gift card that inspires you, now you have an excuse to run over to Starbucks.
