It’s that time again! It’s time to reveal the next sketch in our Project 12 challenge, share some creative submissions for February's sketch by those participating in the challenge, and reveal a prize winner! First, let’s take a look back at the February sketch:
This is what I came up with for this challenge:
Again, I tried to follow the sketch pretty closely. I did resize my photos a wee bit smaller than in the sketch, at 3.25 x 3.25, so that I could put a little space between the photos and include my white borders.
I took advantage of a themed paper pack for this layout, and used My Minds Eye’s Love me Do Collection. It happened to have a fun color palette as well as some die cut hearts which came in handy with this design. I also used my Marvy Uchida punch for some extra hearts! To unify my layouts for the year, I stuck to the kraft background, and used my month stamps and Maya Road sheer scalloped calendars as well. I also used my Fiskars scalloped sentiment punch. I think I have used it on every layout for the past year, so it is definitely in need of a good sharpening.
Last month I had trouble needing more than one of the same 12x12 piece of patterned paper, so this month, seeing that I was going to be in the same pickle, I altered the design a little so this wouldn’t be an issue, but I carried the colors to both sides of the layout, with the blue cardstock to the left of the photos on the first page, and the blue heart patterned paper behind the journaling strip on the right.
As a reminder, you do NOT have to use the sketch to participate in this monthly challenge. I just encourage you to play along! I have said it before, but doing this challenge has changed the way I scrapbook. It has also helped me remember the little details of my life that I don’t want to forget, like the day my girls got on the hood of my car and scraped the windows. I probably won’t do an individual layout about it, but at the time it was a great moment, so I wanted to have that photo somewhere and the story told.
Now let's share some inspiration from those who have linked their artwork to the blog, so that you can get more ideas for next month:
I was looking at the Facebook gallery (which you can see here) and loved this one by Sarah Hodgkinson. Sarah highlighted a single event that happens every February - Family Day. We loved her title work, her colour palette and the new Jillibean Soup products!
I really really like the collage of photos Julie Detlef used on her layout including how she used the strips of patterned paper for colour! Not to mention the adorable title font!
As for non-sketch related layouts, I have to share what Geralyn has done:
She didn’t have a lot of photos to choose, so she recaps on an 8.5 x 11 layout, and chose polaroids. She did this for January as well. I just really really adore this idea.
I also wanted to share this one, by Leslie:
She’s using a fun collage format, and the same sketch for the whole year. Don’t you love those wee little numbers she put on the photos to indicate the date? I love that.
Now that you have seen some added inspiration, how about some winners? The winner from our February sketch submissions is Heather:

I’ll be working on my March recap now that the month is almost finished, so I’m going to be busy with the sketch on this post: http://scrapbookandcardstodaymag.typepad.com/scrapbook_cards_today_blo/2010/02/project-12-january-reveal-march-sketch.html. I’m a fan of the line of photos!
