A lot of funny things happen behind the scenes here at Scrapbook & Cards Today, especially during those last few days leading up to press time. Our Fall issue was no exception. Today we thought we would share an insider look and tell you a story or two about this issue!
You all have heard the classic excuse, "My dog ate my homework," right? Well, truth is stranger than fiction! We were busy setting up the product shot for the 3-Designer Challenge (page 17) and I was babysitting my sister-in-laws' dog, Benji. He'd been a good, little pup and very easy to care for, so I had no reason to believe that he'd get himself into any kind of trouble. Ha!
I busied myself rolling up the beautiful BasicGrey papers, fanning out the Bazzill cardstock, sticking down a few Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type letter stickers (gosh, those are cute!), and balancing several Girls' Paperie travel brads on their side. As I looked over my handy work, I realized a product was missing for the shot. The Pink Paislee Artisan Tape! Where in the world had it gone to? I searched high and low, under the table, around boxes, under paper, and even retraced my steps leading up to prepping the shot. That tape was nowhere to be found!
And then the light bulb went off, and off I went in search of my four-legged friend. Yep, he had absconded with the Artisan Tape. And not just stolen it. No, that would have been much too easy. Mr. Benji had himself a mid-afternoon snack! It was a ball of mush! Sheepishly, I called Rebecca at Pink Paislee, explained my situation, only to find out Pink Paislee was currently sold out of them. Hmmm...what is a girl to do? Well, I pulled out our directory in the back of the magazine and started phoning stores one by one. Thankfully our friends at Treasured Memories in Edmonton had a few roles and we reshot the photo a few days later! Thank you Chantal and team for saving the day!
But of course that's not all! Did anyone find the rhinestone that is out of place? Have a peek at page 11! Ooops! And, then there is the cover! Those are always so fun to shoot, especially when you're shooting outside and are at nature's mercy. The fall cover was shot in my garden around 5:00 in the evening of what was a beautiful sunny day - until about 5 minutes into set up of the shot. Wouldn't you know it but the largest cloud I think I've EVER seen appeared (exaggerated maybe, but on photoshoot day where we are getting dozen of shots done - it really was the biggest cloud ever!). We finished setting up the shot, took a couple and realized that we would have to wait for the cloud to pass. So we waited...and waited...and waited. About 20 minutes later we had just a peak of sun come through and we snapped the picture quickly only to realize there is a squirrel with one of our acorns in his mouth in the background! As we go to reshoot the sky darkens with yet another cloud, of COURSE! So we wait...and wait. Finally an hour later, we have the right light, no squirrel, enough acorns left and quickly snapped the cover. At that point it was a wrap.
Funny stories are everywhere...especially on photoshoot day. If you have not seen this issue yet, you can view the complete issue (for FREE!) on our *new* website at www.scrapbookandcards.com.

I think it would have been so cool to have the squirrel in the pic! It really would have added to the cuteness!
