Good Monday morning! We have got an amazing line up for you this week but before we get to that we wanted toTHANK YOU for your amazing feedback on our fall issue and our brand new website! We are thrilled to hear you love the option of either reading our issues online or being able to download them for future reference. Without a doubt we heard over and over and Friday "it's so pretty!" but even better than that is we heard how easy the site was to navigate. If you have not taken a minute to see the new site (www.scrapbookandcards.com), pop over there and make sure you check out our Giveaways page!
On to this great week! Today's guest designer is a very talented lady, not only for her artwork but for the truly amazing site she has - write.click.scrapbook. If you have not heard of it, write.click.scrapbook is an inspiration site for journaling, photography, and scrapbooking. With an amazingly talented team, every day has a new offering, bringing you challenges, ideas, and hundreds of reasons to keep crafting. We have many friends that are a part of write.click.scrapbook and when I asked Marnie to join us this week, she happily accepted and suggested a journalling challenge just for you.
"The other day I found myself recounting some family folklore: you know those stories that get told over and over. This particular memory surfaces every Halloween when it is time to pick a costume. Smiling at the memory, I got to thinking that I hadn't yet scrapbooked the story. And if it is good enough to be told each year then it must be good enough to deserve a place in our scrapbook historyland. I dug back through some old photos and found one that was timely (though honestly, Nigel asked about this enough that any picture throughout a two year time period would have sufficed!!). The page came together quickly and I was so excited to have preserved a bit of family folklore.
(8.5 x 11) materials: patterned paper & cardstock (Echo Park, Apothecary Paper Pack #2) + patterned paper, scalloped border, artisan label & flair (Creativity by Crystal, Spooky Collection) + fonts (Bebas, Century Gothic)
And of course, once you get thinking about family stories, other things come to mind. Like the story of Lavender and her most unlikely comfort toy:
(11 x 8.5) materials: solid paper, patterned paper, label, stamp, staple & scalloped trim (Creativity by Crystal, Kit for Kate) + journaling strips (Creativity by Crystal, Sweet Vintage Elements) + stitching (Creativity by Crystal, Sweet Eye Candy) + fonts (CK Chloe, Bebas, AmerType)
Or the story of how "liberry" books ousted the hope of a dog:
(11 x 8.5) materials: background paper (Creativity by Crystal, April 2009 Free Pea Kit) + patterned paper (Creativity by Crystal, Sweet Summertime, Me & My {Baby} Brother, Me & My Brother) + patterned paper (Cosmo Cricket, Girl Friday) + patterned paper (Splendid Fiins, Delicious Clementine Paper Pack) + staples (Creativity by Crystal, Spooky Elements) + journaling tag (Creativity by Crystal, Sweet Vintage) + ribbon (Creativity by Crystal, December Elements) + fonts (CK Chloe, Bebas, Century Gothic)
And when I heard myself telling the kids about trick or treating when I was small, I thought, photo or no photo, I can preserve those memories, too!
(8.5 x 11) materials: background, patterned paper, label (Echo Park, Apothecary Paper Pack #2) + journaling strips (Creativity by Crystal, Sweet Vintage) + fonts (Cezanne, CK Chloe)
So are you ready for a little challenge? This week, let's create a layout or two that captures a little bit of family folklore. Is there a story that gets told often? Or, did you call your mom the other day to tell her about the sweet (or spicy) thing your princess did that day? Then did you have to call your sister to tell her, too? Did you text it to a friend? Then text it back to yourself and scrapbook it! Photos are optional. Stories that are told and retold are waiting to be captured in print! I can't wait to read your tidbits and see the pages on which you capture them!!"

Love these, Marnie. You always have such a creative approach and fun stories. :)
And may I say that I was quite distracted by the molding in Lavender's room? *Swoon*

Everything Marnie creates is amazing, but I particularly like the last layout retelling her own Halloween memories {we must have grown up in the same decade!}. I have been drawn to photo-less layouts lately, for some reason.
