12 days of holiday giving - DAY TWO!

Good morning everyone!  Great to see you again!  How fun was Day One yesterday?  If you missed our amazing kick off to the "12 days of holiday giving...SCT style!" with a Sizzix Eclips, be sure to look at yesterday's post and leave your comment! 

I bet you're wondering what fabulous goodies we have today since I told you yesterday there was two.  Well, it is no secret I am passionate about one of them (and she is our amazing editor!) and the second is an absolute essential in my scrap room.  Have you got the "12 days of Christmas" song starting in your head?  Here we go...

Sweet Post It Note holders

Highlighting a reader's submission is always fun!  We saw these cute Post it Note holders from Fleur Smith and since it is the season of giving, how cute would these be to make and share with someone! 

To make these post it note holders, cover both sides of the 4" x 4" Zutter chipboard covers with patterned paper of your choice.  Bind the two covers together using the Bind-It-All and 1/2 " Owires.  Decorate the cover with stickers and embellishments and tie some ribbon or twine around the Owires.  For the inside I found some cute Christmas Post-It-Note holders and glued them to the inside of the back cover.  These are a really quick and easy gift perfect for teachers!

Easy year-in-review gift album!

 

My girls are lucky enough to have four doting great-grandmothers, and at this time of year I want to make sure that they are up to date on what the girls have been up to. I decided to make a mini "Year in Review" album for each of them for Christmas - something simple and easily repeated, so that I could put all four together assembly line style. Here's what I came up with:

 
 
 
 

Quick Instructions:

1. Choose one photo from each month of 2010 and have them printed in 4X6.
2. Use your word processor to write out the months of the year. Print and trim.
3. Choose 4 sheets of complimentary patterned paper. Cut each into 4, to create 6X6 squares. (Set two of the squares aside, as you only need 14 squares for this project.)
4. Adhere one photo to each square, along with the calendar strip. Adhere the squares to each other (back to back) in order, then embellish minimally with punches and brads.  Remember to adhere the front cover to the back of January, and the back cover to the back of December.

5. Create a front and back cover to your liking, then punch all the pages with a Cropadile and slide binder rings through the holes to complete your book!

You can see how quickly a project like this comes together-- and it's a great way to use up some of your stash!  A little bit of journaling and you done!  Voila!

Ribbon Trees for the holidays with Aly!

With Christmas coming soon I’ve been itching to use my scrapbooking supplies to create some festive décor.   I love the various trees I’ve seen floating around the internet the last few years.  And like many of you probably do, I have plenty of ribbon and trim scraps laying around my craft room just waiting to get used on a project.  So I decided to put the two together and make these ribbon Christmas trees.

Your computer and holiday cards...who knew!

Good morning everyone!  Before we begin another great week we just want to say "THANK YOU!" for your enthusiasm, amazing compliments and excitement for our winter issue, the 2011 PageMaps Calendar and the announcement of a special CardMaps issue in 2011.  You are the BEST blog readers on the planet!  And to say thank you, be sure to join us Friday for the kick off of our "12 days of holiday giving...SCT style"!  It will be the best giveaways anywhere this season!

Joining us is Lisa Kisch this week with some beautiful holiday cards and a challenge!

"I love the tradition of making Christmas cards-- but I don't want to use up all my alphabet stickers doing it! (those E's and N's are precious!)  In order to make multiple copies of the same card sentiment, I use my computer-- and I challenge you to do the same!

To create sentiments on your computer, you can use either Word or Photoshop/Photoshop Elements to similar effect. In Word, it can be as simple as choosing a fancy font (I used Edwardian Script in Dark Red at 18pts below) to write Merry Christmas over and over. Then print, cut, and ink the edges in a co-ordinating colour.

 

For the next card, I created a text box in Photoshop Elements then used the Fill tool to colour the box dark green. I then selected my font (pretty "Matilde" available for free here http://www.typedepot.com/fonts/Matilde) and chose white for the text colour. I then typed my sentiment in the text box, and then duplicated the text layer several times over. After printing my sentiments on white cardstock, I cut them up and rounded the corners to fit in perfectly with my design.

 


You can also mix a sentiment in with a .png file for a more decorative effect. For the card below I used a .png snowflake from Laina Lamb's "Snow Flakey" digital cutting kit (http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/shop/laina-lamb/104345-digikit-snow-flakey/?filters=digital-kits%2Fdigital-die-cut-kits)  and then typed "Let it Snow" above. After printing, I used a tag punch to cut them out and grouped three together on the card. Super easy, and super quick!

 

So, I challenge you to use your computer to create sentiments for your Christmas cards today!"
