Hello March! February is over which means that it’s time to showcase some of the beautiful artwork submitted for the January sketch, and to introduce the next sketch on the list!
January was a difficult month for me to scrapbook because I didn’t take a lot of photos in January. I did have a sweet girl turn 7 though, so my camera wasn’t completely devoid of photos.
I had two big events in January that occupied my thoughts. One was the birthday, the second was a trip to California for the CHA convention (the Craft and Hobby Association) in Los Angeles. These two events were very different, so it was a challenge to interpret the sketch to pay homage to both while still maintaining a good balance in design. I’m all about highlighting my month, but it’s important to me that it also looks good too. With that said, here’s a reminder for January’s sketch:
And here’s what I came up with this month:
The two photos taken with a friend’s camera in LA worked perfectly for the small horizontal photos in the sketch, but I thought the easiest way to highlight my kids was to include one photo of Morgan on her birthday, but to have a “supporting” photo of Payton on that day for that wee photo on the right side of the sketch. I think it brings it all together. I also want to make sure both girls get on every Project 12 layout. Morgan is all about pink so I had to include it in the color palette for January.
Some other layouts that jumped out at me this month:
This design and color palette were really cool. I love the changes she made to the sketch and the awesome angel wings work perfectly here. I also love her title work.
I also loved this layout submitted by Sonya:
In particular I liked how she changed the orientation of the photos in the sketch in order to include more of them on her layout. I like the stitchery, the big wave, and how she used patterned paper as her base instead of cardstock or kraft. I also like her layered buttons in the design.
I’m so honored to have so many people participating in this challenge! It is such a great way to include art in your lives and document your history without feeling like you are always stuck at a craft table. Keep it up! I also love running into many of you on blog posts, supporting each other with encouraging comments. I love how creating art can bring people together.
As a reminder, you always have until the 28th to submit your layout if you are interested in winning a prize. By March 28th you will be posting your layouts highlighting your February, so make sure to link them on the blog post where the February sketch was revealed, which is this post:

We also had a big birthday in January, and I also want a way to keep both kids in each month... great idea Davinie!

I love to see the use of sewing in the projects and would love to try it in my scrapbooks but I have not been brave enough to do so yet. Maybe that will be somthing I need to try, wish me luck. I am starting a "Scrap to Treasure" series in which I am coming up with ideas to use everyday things that we would normally throw away, in my scrapbooks. Feel free to check it out. And thankyou for the courage and inspiration to sew on my scrapbook pages.

I didn't follow the sketch this month (though I am going to use it on another layout). I love the concept of Project 12, it helps me to get each month highlighted! Thanks!
