My goodness! Where did September go? This month has just flown by! The fabulous fall issue came out last week and I wanted to share with you a technique I used on my “A Girl and Her Dog” layout which appeared on page 38!
Supplies: Core’dinations cardstock and Sand-It Gadget tool, Pink Paislee patterned paper, Maya Road flower buttons, We R’ Memory Keepers Sew Easy tool, Stampin’ Up! small letter dies and stamp (onto photo), Lifestyle Crafts large letter dies, Fiskars and EK Success punches, DMC embroidery thread, Tsukineko ink, Xyron adhesive, other: sewing machine and thread.
In order to add hand and paw prints to your layouts you are going to need the following:
- Core’dinations cardstock (for this layout and sample I used their new Kraft Core collection)
- sandpaper or sanding block
- sticky cutting mat (ie., Cricut, Pazzles)
- thick cardboard
- pencil
- scissors
- washable ink (for paw prints)
- optional: Dust Buddy by Core’dinations (for clean-up)
Step One: Trace the hand you wish to add onto thick cardboard. Hand cut. If you wish to add a paw print, use a washable ink to press a print onto the same thick cardboard. Hand cut.
Step Two: Firmly press the hand/paw print onto a sticky mat. I keep my old Cricut mats which still have a little stickiness to them for these purposes.
Step Three: Firmly press the Core’dinations cardstock on top of the hand/paw cut out. Securing the cardstock to the mat makes sure that it does not shift during sanding. Also, by using a cutting mat such as the one pictured, it provides you with a grid so that you can place the hand/paw print exactly where you want it to appear on the cardstock/layout.
Step Four: Sand the hand/paw print area. Be sure to sand around each finger thoroughly.
Step Five: Once you have completed the sanding, use a Dust Buddy (Core’dinations) cloth to tidy up and make the image crisp. If you don’t have a Dust Buddy, wipe the area with a dry cloth such as a Kleenex. Don’t wipe it on the carpet…someone always finds out!
Step Six: The finished hand/paw print is now ready to be added to any of your projects. Some suggestions…a birth announcement card, a layout, a “Hello There” card….the possibilities are endless when this personal touch can be added to all your crafting projects.
I hope to see you all soon at either ScrapFest in Oshawa, ON, or CreativFestival in Toronto, ON, in October. Watch for images of those classes and make and takes coming soon!
