Fun Halloween Project by Kelly Panacci!

Happy Friday!  Have you had a good week?  Wondering where has the week gone?  Us too!  Last weekend was ScrapFest, then Monday was registration for Crop & Create in Markham (are you coming to have some fun with us?) and today we are headed to the Creativ Festival in Toronto.  Perhaps we will take a day off on Monday.  HA!  No way, we are excitedly finishing up the winter issue and the 2012 PageMaps Sketch calendar.  No rest yet! 

Now on to today's giveaway!  Kelly Panacci has been a longtime friend of SCT's and when we saw this project at ScrapFest last weekend, we just knew you had to have a chance to win one too!  Kelly has designed this Halloween line with K&Company that is full of fun papers, embellishments and home decor projects too.  Today's winner will win this great Halloween Banner Kit and more...

Add confetti to a card!

Good morning, everyone! I made a card yesterday that I wanted to share with you all. I used some delicious American Crafts products, and added a dash of flair with my Crop-a-dile and some scraps.

 

I loved the black paper with white dots, but when I added my "Thank you" embellishment it just didn't look finished. I needed something to tie in the colour palette of the leaves with the background of the card. I decided to add a little bit of confetti in orange and blue to the line of white dots already on the paper to complete the design.

First, I took some scraps from the American Crafts "Nightfall" line and used the small end of the Crop-a-dile to punch some confetti:

 

I flattened out the little bits:

and used a glue pen to stick them down in the gaps in the dotted white line:

 

Voila-- a little extra bit of colour that ties the whole design together!

Paula's October Hybrid tip!

Good morning!  It's Tuesday and we are excited!  Crop & Create Markham is 50% sold out in just twelve hours!  If you have not registered yet, be sure to do so quickly.  We are going to start some great challenges on the Crop & Create facebook page over the next few weeks so be sure to join us over there...even if you can't make it everyone is welcome to join the challenges.  A great challenge often gets our create juices flowing so join us!

Today Paula Gilarde is joining us for our monthly hybrid tip...

"I showed you how to use digital word art but that often comes in one color- black. I don't know about you, but black doesn't always work in my layouts. Sometimes I want to add some color to make things pop! I'm going to show you a few different ways of changing the color of your word art. These methods work for solid colored elements.

Using the Fill method:
1. Drag your word art .png or .jpg onto your layout.
2. With the word art layer selected, go to the Edit menu and select Fill. The following box will appear.

3. Click on the Color box and select the color that you want to use. Hit OK. Make sure you have the Preserve Transparency box checked -- this will make sure that only the word art (or whatever you are recoloring) will be colored.
You're done!

Using the Paint Bucket Tool:
1. Drag your word art .png or .jpg onto your layout.
2. With the word art layered selected, click the foreground color square at the bottom of your tool palette to choose a new color or get a color from your layout.
3. Choose the Paint Bucket tool

4. In the Options Bar, click "Contiguous". Click the part of your word art that you wish to recolor. This will only recolor any adjacent pixels of the same color. So for example if I want to color just one letter or a few letters I could use this method.

Easy!  Give it a try!

Use a definition on a layout!

Good morning!  Thank you to all of those that joined us at ScrapFest in Oshawa this past weekend.  We were thrilled to meet so many SCT readers and glad so many were able to join us along with Caroline from Maya Road and John from Xyron for make n' takes, demos and classes.  Speaking of classes, guess what opens today? Crop & Create Markham!!!  Registration opens at 7:00 p.m. tonight on our website at www.scrapbookandcards.com.  Classes have been posted here so be sure to register quickly as we only have 132 spaces available and some of the best teachers and design team members joining us!

Today we have Lisa Kisch joining us with a fun challenge...

"Hello, Lisa here!  My challenge to you today is to use a definition as the inspiration for a layout. For the layout below I wanted to scrap my new fall hat-- a grey felt cloche. 

Since a cloche is a little unusual, I thought it would be fun to look up the definition and use that as my journaling. There are a ton of dictionary websites, but if you go to www.OneLook.com you can put in a word and get links to it's definition on  many different dictionary sites. From there I could choose from definitions that suited my layout the best.

Why don't you try using a definition on your next layout or card? Here are a few possibilities to get you going:

Friend, def'n:one closely attached to another by affection and esteem.

Autumn, def'n:the season of the year between summer and winter, lasting from September to November, when fruits and crops become ripe and are picked, and leaves fall.

Family, def'n:two or more people who share goals and values, have long-term commitments to one another, and reside usually in the same dwelling place.
