Summer Fullerton + Pinterest = Inspiration! part 2

If you joined us Monday, I showed you this purse I found on Pinterest  and said ...

"A few months back I found this purse and I pinned it not because I loved the purse but because I really loved the element ON the purse. I was drawn in by the movement the design created and knew I wanted to try this on a project or layout in the future."

I simply couldn’t pick just one element to focus on from the purse so I thought I would do a couple of projects. My first project is a card that is literal interpretation of the purse. I pretty much took the purse design and translated it directly onto my card. I not only focused on the elements but the color palette as well. The only addition is the added stick pin greeting on the right side of the card.

 
Supplies Used: cardstock Bazzill, patterned paper Crate Paper, corrugated shape Jillibean Soup, Martha Stewart punch, stamp Jillibean Soup, VersaFine Ink, Crate Paper/Misc buttons, Stampin Up scallop punch, brown ribbon Jillibean Soup, floral stick pin JoAnn’s and white floss DMC

Then I thought it would be fun to take what I really loved most about the design of the purse and translate it to a layout and that was the movement/flow. In my layout I created movement by weaving twine around a Silhouette cut title. I also used an owl shape as an anchor to the right of my title much the way the bird anchors the right side of the purse. The inspiration on my layout is much less obvious than on the card.

There is no formula for translating and idea to a project just follow what you love whether it’s a copy like my card or something a little less direct like my layout. Inspiration is everywhere you just have to look and keep and open mind (I didn’t pick the purse because I love it). Happy Crafting!

Some Jillibean Soup inspiration for a Tuesday!

 

When we saw these super cute sour cream containers on the Jillibean Soup blog a few weeks ago, we hoped there would be a tutorial to follow.  Sure enough, Jill does not disappoint and if you click here you will find that she has done a great tutorial on how to make these darling little gift boxes.

Of course, then we also saw this adorable Advent tag calendar...

And, as entertaining/visiting/holiday season is upon us we saw this cute project too which is a perfect way to quickly dress a hostess gift.  So easy!

Summer Fullerton + Pinterest = Inspiration!

Years ago I collected scrapbooking inspiration from magazines, tearing ideas out and tucking them away in a folder. These days I follow a more greener path and collect most of my crafting ideas online thru a fabulous site called Pinterest. A few months back I found this purse and I pinned it not because I loved the purse but because I really loved the element ON the purse. I was drawn in by the movement the design created and knew I wanted to try this on a project or layout in the future.

 

What inspires you about this purse? Is it the bird, the colors (love the yellow POP!) or the hand stitching? Or maybe it’s all of the above. Look what went to print today!!!

A very exciting day around the SCT office as look what went to print today...

Accordian fold mini album with Emily Pitts!

Happy Wednesday! I was happy to see such positive comments on the Monday Challenge, I had intended to do a basic tutorial on making an accordion fold mini album, but I thought I'd incorporate the idea of doing a monthly "Currently" into the project as well. I've made this album twelve pockets large, perfect for on "Currently" sheet and photo each month. At the end of 2012, I'll have a snapshot of me throughout the year.

 
 

First off, you'll want to score a 12x12 piece of cardstock into thirds (at 4 inches and 8 inches), then you'll cut that 12x12 in half, so you have two 6 inch pieces. Fold them accordion style and glue together by overlapping two of the flaps. A 12-pocket album will use six–6 inch strips glued together.

 

Once your accordion is glued together, cut twelve 3 " x 4" rectangles and punch a half hole on one of the 4 inch sides. Then glue a rectangle to the right side of each two page spread. To get all twelve, you'll also be using the back of the accordion to house your pockets and photos.

 

I then printed off the questions and cut them into 3" x 4" rectangles. I also cut up a sheet of calender bingo cards from the Year•o•logy collection from Simple Stories (all patterned papers and stickers are from this line). I slipped the questions and the calendar in the pocket. When I answer my questions, I'll circle the date on the calendar, clever, no?

 

 

 

The final step is adding the cover. I cut a 6" x 12" piece of paper, scored it at 4.5" and 8.5" then glued the back page of the album to that scored part. Then I scored at 3.5" and 9.5" so the cover would fold up and around the accordion. 

 

Decorate as desired, you can add a ribbon to hold it all together if you'd like. And there you have it, an accordion mini album, waiting to be filled.
