One of my favourite techniques for adding a special touch to winter projects is resist embossing with white embossing powder. It creates a crisp textured look that I love. The card below is an example of this technique.
Supplies: patterned paper, corrugated shape, decorative pins (Jillibean Soup); ribbon (source unknown); button (Creative Café); rubber stamps (Unity Stamp Co for Jillibean Soup); glimmer mist (Tattered Angels); blue paint (Apple Barrel); watermark ink (Versamark); white embossing powder (Clearsnap); silver metallic ink (StazOn); heat gun (Marvy Uchida)
To create this look you will need the following supplies:
• Light colored cardstock
• Rubber or acrylic stamps
• Versamark inkpad
• White embossing powder
• Heat embossing tool
• Dark colored spray ink
• Paper towel
Here’s what you do:
Using Versamark ink, stamp your image onto the light colored cardstock.
Add enough white embossing powder to cover all of your stamped images. The powder will stick to the ink. Pour the excess back into the container.
Using a heat embossing tool, emboss your stamped images.
Once the powder cools, spray your cardstock with a dark colored ink. While it is still wet, wipe your embossed images with a paper towel and the ink will come off leaving crisp clean white images on your project.
Give this technique a try on your next winter themed project for a unique look. Don’t have a heat embossing tool? Check out page 29 of the fall 2011 issue where Vicki Boutin shares how to achieve a similar look using a decoupage resist technique!

What a cool look on your card! Would this look the same if I just stamped onto a colored cardstock?

in response to Kathy P's question: just stamping with white ink on colored cardstock will look pretty cool too, but you won't get the raised texture that you get from the heat embossing.
