With Spring upon us in Ontario (it's the warmest March day on record EVER!) and the team off to Winnipeg for Crop & Create, we thought it would be perfect to highlight some beautiful spring cards from our readers!  In fact, we picked 6 beautiful cards to start our 6th birthday celebration...

This card features a Silhouette-cut ladybug with various embellishments placed in the ladybug's spots. Spotted paper further enhances the ladybug design. A stick pin tucked under a flower holds the greeting and a baker's twine bow, adding a bit of elegance to an otherwise whimsical card.

Fun fact about this card: the clouds on my card were inspired by a poster (below) for the movie, Up in the Air, starring George Clooney. Who wouldn't be inspired by George Clooney, :)

Use your mist as ink with Kelly Purkey!

Hi everyone, it's Kelly here with a little tutorial on how I did the stamping with mist on my Run This Town layout from Monday's post. 

 

It's an easy technique to do and it gives your stamping a cool water color effect - which is a nice switch up from using a regular ink pad!




I start by spraying some mist onto the backside of the clear stamp package.  This is an easy place to spray you ink because it won't dry on the plastic and can wipe off easily when you're done. I usually place paper towel underneath my stamp set to soak up the excess mist that comes out.  Set up your stamps like you normally would on a block.




Ink up the stamps by gently dabbing them into the mist.  You can push them around in the mist to make sure that all of the stamp gets covered with mist.

If the mist if very runny or it looks like there's too much mist on there, "kiss" the stamps lightly onto paper towel before stamping down.  This will help give you a clean stamped image and not too much of a mist blur on your paper.




Stamp onto your paper like normal.

You can see what a cool effect this gives - some light shades and some dark, a bit of blobs, and looks like watercolor paint.  It looks great when you spray two colors of mist together as well!  If you try this, be sure to link to this post so we can all see it!

Kelly Purkey is here...with a challenge!

Good morning SCT readers!  Are you ready for a pretty exciting week?   We are now just days away from the release of the spring issue AND CardMaps Today 2, and we are also putting all the finishing touches on our sold out Crop & Create in Winnipeg!  And if you have not seen the sneak peeks of the amazing classes...have a look here! We cannot wait to meet all these fun ladies!

Of course this week is also exciting because we have the ever-talented and fabulous Kelly Purkey joining us as a guest designer...

"Hi everyone, it's Kelly Purkey here with a layout to share and a challenge to go along with it!

I created this layout using my new Studio Calico March kit and really fell in love with the map paper from Crate Paper.  To make it my own, I used my alphabet stamps to stamp out the names of the neighborhoods on the paper.  Instead of using ink pads, I stamped using Mister Huey's spray mist and dipped my stamps in that.  This week I challenge you to play with your alphabet stamps - whether you create a title for a layout, make a cool background out of letters, or stamp out your journaling.  Have fun and happy stamping!
