Memorabilia on a layout? Paula shows you how!

Hi everyone - Paula Gilarde back today with some new inspiration. Even before I started scrapbooking, I always loved the idea of keeping memorabelia. I'd keep tickets, labels and booklets from places I visited as momentos. I just didn't know what to do with it them. Now I like to include them in my layouts. Usually I only include one or two things but I collected so many on a trip to New York city that I decided to include lots of them on one layout!

First I gathered all my bits and pieces - tickets from shows, the subway and places we visitied. I laid them all out on in an orderly fashion to fit in a square. I used leaflets and travel-themed stickers to fill in the blank spots. I finished it off by adding a journaling spot, my title and some twine. It was a fun way to record our trip and I hope it inspires you to do the same!

Tuesday tutorials and inspiration!

We love that so many of our readers visit our blog each day to see what we're up to, what projects we're showcasing or on Friday's, what we are giving away!  Of course, we also look at many blogs each day and today I thought I would share a few things that caught my eye!

From design team member Summer Fullerton, we have a beautiful card she created from the new Lilybee Design release...

You can check out another adorable card Summer made and a great layout (scroll down a few days) called "family is 4 ever" on her blog HERE.  A fabulous example of how great Summer is with colour and design!  You can also check out Summer's Colour Suite challenge she hosts here on the 15th of the month here or her Colour Suite article in each issue!

I saw this layout being pinned a few times from our friend Lisa Dickinson and had to share.  Great layout, great design...just great!  Her blog is also full of wit, humour, scrapbooking, fashion and life!   

Next up, I visited the doodlebug blog this morning and saw these great holiday cards created by Melinda Spinns!  Adorable!

Moving on, loved this layout by Davinie Fiero!  Another fun design using her Silhouette and Pink Paislee!  I think I want every.single.piece of that Portfolio collection!

And last, on the Studio Calico blog, the layout of the week belongs to Lilith Eekels and just had to be shared.

Monday inspiration with Paula Gilarde!!!

Helllllllo Monday!  We are thrilled to have our great friend and fabulous designer Paula Gilarde joining us to share her "Monday Inspiration".  A little kick start to week!  Are you ready for a challenge this week?  Let's get going...

"Happy Monday everybody! Paula here with some scrappy inspiration for you today. When I am stuck for ideas for a layout I pull out a magazine, any kind of a magazine, and look at the ads. Here is an advertisement I got from a magazine this month.

I like the way the title and the jouranling are stacked in a column on top of the photos. There's lots of great inspiration here. It inspired me to create this layout:

I stacked my title, journaling and photos and layered the bottom of the layout with embellishments (leaves in this case!)

I was also inspired to create a card based on the ad - this time I stacked the sentiment:

Next time you are looking through a magazine take a closer look at the ads - they might inspire you more than you realize!

Make your own washi tape with Allison Cope!

Today we're going to talk all about...TISSUE PAPER!  Tissue paper is easy find and even easier to use on your scrapbooking projects.  One of the more popular trends in the industry right now is WASHI TAPE so here is a quick tutorial to making your own washi tape with tissue paper!

1. Cut tissue paper strips.  TIP:  You can always cut your strips larger and then trim them with scissors when your designs are finished.
2. Crumple your tissue strips and then unfurl them.  This gives your tape a great textural element!
3. Grab a roll of some double sided tape - I used some 1" wide Sookwang tape.  Flourishes offers a variety of tape widths HERE!
4. Adhere your tissue strip to the sticky side of your double sided tape.
5. Now decorate!!!

To decorate my tapes, I first took some Distress Inks and applied a light wash of their colours to my tissue;  Shabby Shutters, Peacock Feathers and Peeled Paint.

Then I took some green distress ink and stamped some fern images from the Flourishes “Ferns and Fiddles” stamp collection all over each strip. I then added a touch of walnut stain ink to one side of each tissue strip.  And VOILA... your very own washi tape!

 
You of course, can try this same technique with acrylic paint, inks, stamps and stencils!  Super fun stuff!

The industry also has a variety of printed tissue sheets like this 7Gyspies tissue paper which I incorporated into my layout today.

You & Me Forever by Allison Cope

Here are a few close ups of aspects of this layout...

I stamped a few simple roses and rose bush leaves from the Flourishes “I Love Roses” stamp set.  I first brushed a wash of white paint over top of them and then coloured with in with Ranger's new Distress Ink Markers.  To add that finishing touch, I added a fine layer of clear embossing powder to my roses and some Ranger crackle accents solution to my leaves.

For my tissue back ground, I stamped a variety of ferns again right over top of the tissue paper.  I also embossed some white ferns to add a pop of more white.

For my title, I stamped all over a simple manila tag, incorporating my title "You & Me Forever" from the “Love Sweet Love” stamp sets also from Flourishes.

Clay tutorial with Allison Cope!

Today I'm going to talk about creating outside of the realm of paper... yes... we're going to talk about created with clay. So grab your coffee and take a seat and let's get started!

1.  First I took a small amount of white clay in my hands.  I used a soft Premier Light Weight Stone Clay for my project today.  I carefully molded it into a ball to bring all the rough edges together.

 2. Next I flattened it out with just my fingers.  I chose to use an old Ziploc freezer bag to work on.

 
3.  Then I used a mini rolling pin (in my case a bottle of Smooch Spritz :) ) to flatten and smooth out the clay to my desired thickness.

4.  Then I took one of the Spellbinder's Classic Circle dies to use as my template to cut my clay into a circle using a craft knife.  I peeled away the excess clay and put it back into my re-sealable bag.

 
5.  See how nicely the circle image comes out?!  I distressed the edges to make them a little bit rough and uneven.  I even pressed the die into the clay a little bit to get a frame like impression around the circle of clay.

6.  Then I stamped my little apple image from the “Apple of my Eye” stamp set from Flourishes using some Memento Black Tuxedo ink right into the clay.  I also punched 2 small holes in the top of the image for a future bow for use on a future card.

7.  Then I carefully placed my circle of clay on a cookie sheet and to hasten the drying of the clay I popped it into a 200 degree oven and baked it with the door open for 10 minutes. 

8.  Once my clay was cool, I took it back to scrappy desk and coloured it with Copic Markers. 

9.  After colouring I took some Memento Rich Cocoa ink and the large verse from the “From the Desk Of" stamp set also from Flourishes and stamped a subtle script across my entire image.

 
10.  Then I added some Ranger “Antique Linen” and "Walnut Stain” Distress Inks to the edges of the circle and our little clay tag was done!
