Good morning, Christa here! Happy National Scrapbook Day SCT friends! At the magazine we are always asked about tips and tricks to create balanced two page layouts so I thought I would share some of my tried and true ideas and a few examples with you!
- A 2 page layout is a great way to tell the story of an event, vacation, family gathering, etc without feeling like you are forgetting an important detail
- A 2 page layout is also advantageous when there is a lot of journaling involved, yet you want to include several photos with the journaling. I’ve created 2 page layouts where predominantly one page is merely journaling and a title/embellishment and the other page showcases the photos that enhance the long story.
- Two page spreads are a great way to showcase a large photo when you want to pair it with smaller photos, lengthy journaling and/or large amounts of embellishments.
- I tend to look at 2 page layouts as just one giant page and work through my process that way by either lining up photos equally on both pages or mirroring photos and embellishments.
- I don’t do this often, but there have been a few occasions that I look at each page separately then tie them together by one common element.
- Don’t be afraid to carry photos and/or titles across the pages thereby requiring you to cut them down the middle. I used to be very afraid of this, but luckily got over it quickly and am not afraid to go over the gap!
- Try to look at 2 page spreads as just a large canvas and not a daunting task to have to fill every bit of space. White space is ok on single page layouts and also more than ok on 2 page layouts.
- Have fun with it. It’s a great way to try a new technique if you need some additional space (sewing, large die cut, Silhouette cut, etc.)
Here are a few more examples!
