Good morning, everyone! I have been wanting to play with Bella Blvd’s new feathers ever since they first came out at CHA! Available in 18 gorgeous colours, each package has four feathers in four different sizes. Because they are so light and thin, they make a great low-profile embellishment on layouts, cards and journals.
When I think of feathers, I automatically think of the fancy hats that women wear, especially in Europe. I always thought it would be so cool to be a millinery designer and that is where I got the inspiration for my cards.
Supplies: feathers (Bella Blvd); cardstock (Stampin’ Up!, Bazzill Basics); patterned paper (My Mind’s Eye); rhinestones, water colour pencils, embossing folders, ink, paper punches (Stampin’ Up!); chalk (Pebbles); pearls (Martha Stewart); adhesive (Helmar); hats cutting file and woman digital stamps (Becky Fleck)
I designed and printed the woman’s shape onto pale pink patterned paper, and highlighted the cheeks and neckline with Pebbles chalk. I used watercolour pencils to add lipstick. After trimming out the hat pieces, I layered all of them together and attached each woman to a double matted circle.
I snipped off the top 2” from the smallest feather and tucked it in behind the hat band. I used a very small half pearl to create a necklace on each neckline. I then finished off each hat with a double layered flower and rhinestone center. That’s it!
What creative ways will you use feathers? Please share! And for more inspiration, be sure to read Vicki Boutin’s Designer Notebook feature on feathers in our Spring issue!
Have a great day, everyone!
~ Becky

Oh goodness, these cards really appeal to me. I am going to try to replicate them, hope that is ok?
I picked up some lovely feathers from Guinea Hens at a farm. Not too original but I will be using them on a layout about that day.
These lovely, fluffy feathers would be wonderful on a Heritage layout, I think.

This came at a perfect time I just made a graduation card for my sons girlfriend and I wanted something special so I stamped a bird in a birdcage and I cut out a bird from vellum and glued a feather on top of the bird sitting on top of the bird cage. I stamped a little birdie told me... Then I stamped in another pretty fancy font "Your Special" it turned out really nice. I just love what you have done here. Thanks for sharing.

Where do you get the pattern for the women and the cd for the hats? I've always loved this type of art and would love to give it a go.

I love this card! I create files that can be cut out with various cutter machines (Pazzles, KNK, etc) and would love to make files so that people can create this card for themselves. Can I get a copy of the face & Hat and make files from them that I would give away on my blog as well as sending them to you to put on your site/blog.
Thanks in advance!
