Good morning SCT readers! Did you check out yesterday's post to see if you were a winner in our World CardMaking Day fun? We had 14 winners of some amazing prizes so be sure to check!
Today, we have designer Shellye McDaniel joining us and we are thrilled to have her on the SCT blog. If you have a few minutes today you have to check out the fun Doodlebug mini bags she posted on her own blog a few days back. Love them!
"I’ve always loved chalkboards. As a child I had a green chalkboard on a nifty easel that sported Raggedy Ann and Andy at the top. I had an array of pastel colors that I would use as I taught “my students” how to multiply and divide. Ever since the chalkboard trend has been introduced to all types of paper-crafting, I couldn’t wait to get reacquainted with the chalky stuff!
The card that I’m sharing today uses chalk in a very simplistic way, but with a very fun result!
Products: Cardstock-Core’dinations; Patterned papers and sticker-We R Memory Keepers; Resin Flower- Fancy Pants Designs; Ribbon- May Arts; Stamp- Stampin’ Up!
To begin, start with a piece of black textured cardstock; I did find that using a textured version, versus a smooth cardstock seemed to hold the chalk better. Run the chalk around the edge of the cardstock:
There isn’t a right or wrong way as chalkboard art is very forgiving…have fun with it!
Using a soft cloth, rub over the chalk marks and blend. It may be necessary to repeat the chalking process until you have reach the desired look.
Layer on fun chalk-themed papers and embellishments or create your own with readily available printables!

White china marker pencil gives a whiter finish than chalk. Give it a go...
