I thought it might be fun to shake Monday with Megan up once a month by inviting a friend in to talk trends with us—a Trend Friend. I get much of my trend inspiration from the remarkably talented chicas I know and love, so it only makes sense I invite them out to play in the name of trends and crafting.
So, as a special exclusive for you, meet Amy Tan of Amy Tangerine, our first Trend Friend!
If you know anything about crafting and the world of paper, you’re likely well aware of Ms. Tan already. She’s a big name in the scrapbooking industry with her amazing Amy Tangerine collection with American Crafts.
What you may not know is Amy has an equally impressive resume in the world of fashion, where her darling designs were carried in such high-end stores as Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, and Barneys New York.
Wait! What?!? Who is this girl? She seems to have the Midas touch. But the reality is, she’s just a hard worker with a crazy-creative eye who isn’t afraid to take risks and go after her dreams. She’s incredibly kind, and her passion for life is contagious. I’ve known her for years and consider it an absolute pleasure to share a bit about her with you here today.
Trender Bender
When it comes to trends, this girl is always ahead of the curve, and I’m dying to know her secrets. Honestly, I think it simply comes naturally to her, but I know she also has some brilliant insight to offer us in the name of trend seeking. So I asked Amy to take my little Trender Bender quiz. She graciously agreed. So, without further ado, here is a bit about trends from the fabulous vantage point of Amy Tangerine!
Megan: From your trend-savvy perspective, what would you say is the next big thing we can look forward to in the world of paper crafting?
Trend Friend: As DIYers, I think there are a lot of trends we will be seeing, but one in particular is brush script. It’s just artsy enough to incorporate without being too over the top. As you know, I asked Kal Barteski to collaborate with me for Plus One, my newest collection with American Crafts hitting stores now.
Megan: Of the many amazing trends on the scene at the moment, what is your current fav when it comes to the world of crafting?
Trend Friend: I love the gold with kraft that Maggie Holmes has in her latest collection with Crate Paper. Such a fun combination to have a bit of sparkle and sheen to something so industrial feeling.
Megan: Take us off the beaten path a bit, if you will, and share a lesser known online avenue for investigating up and coming trends—one of your diamonds in the rough when it comes to keeping ahead of the curve.
Trend Friend: I love going to the bookstore to peruse magazines from different countries. There are a plethora of ones from Europe that range in different topics like art and home décor.
Megan: As you find yourself inspired by trends, how do you translate that inspiration into projects? For example, do you have a notebook where you keep your trendy tidbits contained to pull from as you’re crafting?
Trend Friend: Yes, I have a notebook, but nowadays, Pinterest is a great way to collect all of the online images. Before that I had a tumblr.
Megan: How can our SCT Trend Friends learn more about you and your style?
Trend Friend:
@amytangerine on Twitter and Instagram
Megan: Anything else? Feel free to share.
Trend Friend: Thanks so much for having me! If you want to learn more about brush script, there’s an awesome class called Life Scripted that I contributed to. Would love to see you in the classroom!
Thanks, Amy, for being our first Trend Friend to come out and play. I know our SCT friends will love your trendy tips, and we all appreciate you taking time out of your very busy life to share them with us.

I saw the page with the word seriously on it. Was that something that you had made? My daughter LOVES using that word and I would love a sticker or stamp with it on it.

Linda, the "seriously" is either a sticker or rub on from her new Plus One collection with American Crafts. Think it's been in stores and in online stores for a couple weeks. Check it out, she has l lots of awesome things, including stamps and a new embroidery kit that's cool. Michelle t

Interesting article on Amy. In a future trend article, would you address what at mood board is? I've seen them, and it kind of a looks like the mix and match of paper, fabric and embellies I pull together to create a color palette to work with for a project though I doubt I'd be "on trend!" thanks.
