It's Nicole Nowosad with you today on Day Two of our 10th birthday celebration! I am honoured to be part of this magazine and its’ talented team of people behind the scenes of the magazine. I have a fun and easy birthday themed project for you today – who doesn’t love a good banner at a party! I've also added a little bonus for you too ;)
I created this banner in a few simple steps and it looks so pretty once put together!
Supplies: Patterned Paper – Basic Grey; Cardstock – American Crafts
I started out by die-cutting several banner pieces out of some pretty patterned paper. I layered one of the images with some white cardstock diecut to a scallop edge shape.
Once I had the number of shapes diecut, I arranged them in an order on a large table. I had quite a few pieces and so I chose a pattern and varied my colour scheme across the banner.
I diecut a few hearts and letters to spell “happy” and added to parts of my banner. It’s easy to add these while you have the banner arranged on your work surface, so you can see what the final result will be.
I wanted to add some rosettes to some of the banner pieces. Here is how I made mine:
- Cut strips of patterned paper to measure 1”x 12” and score at ¼” intervals on the front and reverse of the paper.
- Fold the scored paper into an accordion style fold
- Using some hot glue – or another very strong adhesive, adhere the ends together to create a ring
- Pinch together to make a rosette shape and adhere to a piece of cardstock. I used a scrap punched with a circle punch.
- Now, you can add layers to the top or behind the rosette shape to pretty it up even more! I used some circles punched from co-ordinating patterned paper and diecut doily shapes from JustNick. You could always use a punch too!
- All that is left to do is add to your banner!
Once the banner is all ready to go, simply add some twine using hot glue or another STRONG adhesive to the backside of the banner pieces, making sure to keep your banner in order so that any words you may have spelled are correct when you are done!
I hope you have enjoyed this project! You can re-create this with any patterned paper and get a totally new look for any party you are hosting! Now, wouldn’t it be great to have a file that you could cut those pieces SO easily?
