Hello there, Melissa here! Father's Day is quickly approaching and it is the perfect time to bust out our favorite masculine paper-crafting products and get to work creating handmade cards for the guys in our lives.
I have a couple of favorite collections for the guys that I can't wait to share with you. This first card uses The Great Outdoors collection from Echo Park Paper Co. I love every bit of this fun and ultra retro collection...especially the patterned paper found in the 6x6 paper pad.
It's always inspiring to me to change directions a bit when it comes to card-making. Masculine cards are lots of fun because of the many different elements you can combine that may normally be outside of your normal comfort zone creative area :). For instance, the rich color schemes, the combination of patterns from plaid, to basket weave, to maps, to camouflage, to herringbone, even to fish prints. I love them all and many of those prints can be seen in this first card.
Themed cards are always a playful approach to creating Father's Day cards, such as in my second card. I've used the Echo Park Hero collection and have pulled together a card perfect for someone serving in the military or for a very special hero.
Father's Day is also a great time to incorporate texture into your card making. I've used the World Map Embossing Folder from Echo Park in the background, creating a touchable surface with a masculine feel. The faux wood buttons used as embellishments also add texture to my card.
Across the bottom I added more texture by using corrugated Thickers from Crate Paper. These add dimension and touch-a-bility and is one of my most favorite textures in paper-crafting.
I wanted these letters to stand out a bit from their camouflage background, so I used a foam brush and off-white acrylic paint to brush on a bit of color to the surface, creating a weathered, distressed look.
So, now's the time to dive into mixing and matching different masculine patterns, bringing in a variety of textures, and creating with that special guy in mind while you're at it.

I would love to win this prize and be able to share with my 85 year old mother who is an avid scrapbooker. But she is more than a scrapbooker she is an amazing lady who has helped me with so much over the years, but over the last few months she has been by my side helping me so much as I suffered a terrible fall down the stairs and fractured my pelvis. She has been there for everything for me and I would like nothing more than to be able to share some fun times scrapbooking together! It would be a win win for both of us!! Thanks for the chance to win such an amazing prize!!! 😊 Posted by: Lynn W | May 20, 2016 at 02:36 PM
