5:00 PM - iNSD inspiration from Paige Evans!

Hello and happy interNational Scrapbook Day 2017! The best holiday there is :) For this layout I was inspired by the card created by Mendi Yoshikawa on page 69 of the Spring 2017 issue.

I love lots of color and the rainbow really spoke to me. So I decided to enlarge the rainbow shape and use it as a focal design element on my layout.

Supplies: Patterned paper, die cuts, Thickers, mini alphabet stickers, washi tape: Oh My Heart by Paige Evans / Pink Paislee; Cardstock, pen adhesive: American Crafts; Die cut machine: Silhouette Cameo 3; Cloud punch: Fiskars; Sequins: Craft supply; Modeling paste: Liquitex; Stencil: The Crafter's Workshop

I started by looking through the Silhouette Design Store for a rainbow cut file and used design id 73628.

Tip: I die cut each segment of the rainbow from a different color of patterned paper found in my Oh My Heart collection with Pink Paislee and then hand stitched through the center of each piece using the same color of thread as the paper for added texture and dimension.

Next I went on a search for some fun clouds and found a cute set of five of them by Lori Whitlock (design id 11654). I die cut a bunch of different sized clouds from textured white cardstock and then stitched around the edges using white thread. I also punched some smaller clouds from vellum.

Tip: For the background, I die cut a whole bunch of tiny raindrops from smooth white cardstock and then used a stencil and modeling paste to create a rainlike texture on top. Then I brought in some mixed media and used the packaging technique to apply blue watercolors over the background. Next I backed the cardstock with an ombre blue paper again to mimic rain.

Once all of the elements were ready (the shapes, the background, and the photo, which is my son's Kindergarten picture) I pieced and adhered them together to create a fun page inspired by the card! 

Notice the fox die cut tucked into the photo layer - my son's name is Fox so it had to be done :) For the finishing touch I added sequins to the mix for a pop of shine.

Happy International Scrapbook Day everyone! Ahhh… nothing like a day set aside just to celebrate this amazing hobby of ours, right?  

Today, I’m feeling the inspiration and nowhere do I find more amazing pages than in our magazine’s Inspiration Gallery. As the art director, I get to layout all the images you see on the pages and can you imagine how fun it is as a scrapbooker to do this as part of my job? Believe me. It’s SUPER fun!

So the page that inspired my page today is Carpe Diem by Enza Gudor on page 69 of our new spring issue. 

I was instantly in love with Enza’s background cut file and new I could make something like that on my own using my Adobe Illustrator software combined with my Silhouette Cameo. Here is my page:

I love the texture of doing a white cut file on a white background. It’s subtle but it adds a level of depth to the design that is just so cool. 

I also decided to use one sheet from the Doodlebug Dragon Tails Petite Print patterned paper pack to take the negative parts of the cut file to fill in some of the spaces. I just thought it would be a fun look and a way to add some pops of colour to my layout while still keeping it relatively simple.

I also added some black hearts and little Doodlebug Sprinkles to the center of each one, and then adhered those to the hearts from the cut file.

For my photo mat, I used the 4.25 x 3.5 stitched die cut rectangle from Lawn Fawn and then also used the smallest frame in that set to cut out my journal block.

TIP: For my title, I used the Cole Alphabet from Lawn Fawn and some heavy black Lawn Fawn Black Licorice cardstock. I cut out 6 of each letter, and just glued them on top of each other for some nice dimension. I used the circles of the cut file to help space out the title evenly.

Happy National Scrapbook Day everyone! I'm excited to be celebrating this amazing hobby today and sharing some inspiration!  I love any design that features circles or stars, so when I saw Bea Valint's layout in the Winter 2016 issue of SCT with the fun circle of stars, I was in scrapbook heaven!

Seriously, how cute is this design?! I love the colorful patterns and whimsical stars, all joined together with circular stitching. I incorporated a similar concept on my page that documents 12 years of marriage (though we'll be celebrating 19 this summer - wow does time fly!)

Tip: I used circle punched papers and layered die cuts to form my circle and added button embellishments for texture. I typed a block of journaling inside the circle, and let the two photos overlap the lower right edge as well.

 

 

I few tiny punched butterflies were added outside the circle, and I die cut a script word for my title, giving the circle a nice base to rest upon.

2:00 PM - iNSD inspiration with Stacy Cohen!

Happy {inter}National Scrapbook Day everyone!  Stacy Cohen here with a scrapbook page to share.  I always love an inspiration challenge. When I was flipping through the Inspiration Gallery of the Winter 2016 issue and stumbled upon the beautiful "Love" card by Marielle LeBlanc on page 65, I knew I had found my inspiration piece!  I was immediately taken by the bold watercolor flower paper and the striking red bow.  Here is Marielle's gorgeous card:

I used the column of watercolor roses and the big bow on Marielle's card as inspiration for a scrapbook page. Tip: I decided to do a mix of crisp black and white juxtaposed with vibrantly-colored flowers and leaves.

I combined hand-cut flowers from American Crafts' Color Me Pretty paper (part of the Lovely Day collection) with hand/die-cut flowers from Vicki Boutin's new flower stamps and dies set.  I had fun coloring in all the flowers and leaves - - some with watercolors, some with markers, and others with colored pencils.  Once I started coloring and painting I didn't want to stop.  I have enough leftover colored flowers to make another layout!  Of course I had to add a big, bold bow to my layout.
